  1. Welcome back to the wonderful world of blogging! Ida B is a very unique individual, yet I believe that many of you will be able to relate to her vivacious spirit. She sees the world in such an imaginative way that it is hard not to enjoy reading about her experiences! I look forward to reading each of your posts and commenting back.

  2. MiM,

Give me details about a bad experience or day that you have had at school. We have all had them! I know most of us have never had a day exactly like Ida B's first day, but I want us to share similar experiences.

  3. Dear Bloggers,
When Ida B says there is never enough time for fun I think she meant that people should always have fun. I agree with her but I also think there should be time for work. Like school and housework. It seems to me that she does housework and even though she is "home schooled" I don't think there is much home schooling actually going on in the Underwood household. I think Ida B has enough fun, but she could have school.

  4. My Dearest Bloggers,
When Ida B's father says that the earth should be better than when we found it that relates to Catholic teachings because this is God's world and we are God's people and he is just letting us use his world. I think God expects us to make his earth better and sometimes I don't think we do that. I don't think God would appreciate things like dumping untreated sewage into his rivers and oceans. I don't think God minds us doing things like driving cars around and using electricity because that helps us survive better.

  5. Dear Ms. Steffen,
Ida B's idea of fun is running around with her dog Rufus exploring the outdoors, talking to trees, and drawing.
My idea of fun is playing sports, video games, and hanging out with friends.

    Sincerely,
    bk0323

  6. Hello Friends,
Well I think that Ida B's definition of fun is going with her dog to go and talk to her tree friends which is pretty strange if you think about it. My idea of fun is just hanging out with friends and playing sports or just playing games with friends.

  7. JO,

You have some excellent thoughts about Ida B and how fun fits into her lifestyle. Be sure that you answer my question, though. What are some things that are Ida B's idea of fun and what are some things that you consider fun? I look forward to hearing your answers!

  8. dear Ms.Steffen, Ida B's Idea of fun is playing around with her dog Rufus. Including running and making rafts to send down the brook with some notes on paper saying "tell me where you are." My Idea of fun is playing a sport or something. Being active or just sleeping is ok with me.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Dear Bloggers,
Ida B's idea of fun is being outside with her pets and the nature. She has fun when she talks to her trees and the brook and other things that are outside. My idea of fun is maybe with my friends going to a movie or to someone's house or to a sport's game of sorts. I think we have different views of fun because Ida B can have a lot of fun by herself and I do not have that ability sadly.

  10. Dear Ms. Steffen
When Ida B's father says that when they leave the land it should be better than when they got it, I think he means that he wants the land to be cleaner and more beautiful than it was before because a lot of people are littering and dumping trash in lakes and just anywhere really, so he wants to respect and care for the land that god gave to him. I agree that we need to care for the earth more than do now.

You did a good job of giving me reasons why what her father said fit into Catholic teachings. Which particular social justice teaching do you think this statement fits and why?

Your secret is safe with me! Be sure to tell me which particular social justice teaching this fits into and why.

  13. Dear Bloggers,
The Catholic Social Justice Teaching that this follows is care for God's creation. What Ida B's father said follows this teaching because the world is God's creation. And we should take care of it and even do more than just take care of it, we should help it grow by doing things like planting trees and loving other people in the world.

Ida was afraid and it was bad her first day of school .Because up until this point she was home schooled but now she is going to a real school with classmates. On my first day of school I was excited to meet new friends. But when I got to third grade school got harder because we actually had homework to do. And I was afraid that I was never going to get it done. How did you feel when you went to a new school or a had more responsibity?

  15. Dear BK (whoever you are),
I agree with you on your post that you said what Ida B's definition of fun is. I think her definition of fun would be rather boring for me, but that's what makes us all different.

  16. I think it is kinda wired that how she rights letters to places and then who ever gets it sends it back to Ida B and the one time a class got it and the class sent back a lot of information on Canada.

I think that what Ida B's father said would be under the category 'caring for god's creation' for the catholic social justice system.

  19. Dear bloggers,

Many of you think Ida B is silly for sending notes to other places via nature. Be more specific for me. Why do you not agree with her ideas of having fun (such as sending a letter to someone far away)? What part do you think is so crazy about it?

    Ms. Steffen

  20. As a general observation of the posts thus far, there are quite a few bloggers that are not being specific or giving me as much information about the novel as I would like. Be sure that you are answering the questions using evidence from the novel and following the rubric that I gave you to make sure that you earn as many points as possible. Also, when you are commenting on another student's post, be sure to answer completely, not just with a couple of sentences. Thanks!

  21. BK,

When you mentioned your ideas of fun, I noticed that you failed to mention drawing! You have that down as one of Ida B's favorite past times, but I know from experience that drawing is something you enjoy. Do you like to draw for fun on your own time or is it something that you prefer to only do during school for assignments?

    Ms. Steffen

  22. MM,

You said that you were afraid when you were in third grade that you would never get all of your homework completed. I was always afraid of getting a green slip (which would be similar to our silent lunches), so I was diligent about doing homework first thing at night when I got home. My biggest fear was that my parents would be disappointed in me if I came home with that green slip.

What were some fears that you all notice Ida B has about school? What are some fears that you all continue to have about school? As a teacher, I still have some fears about school. It is a common experience that many people have!

Yes, I do enjoy drawing, but I don't really have time to doodle on my own time. I normally only do it at school, but I do find drawing fun.

  25. Fellow bloggers,
Ida B. was kind've scared of going to her first day of school because she was kind of nervous of her new classmates and her new teachers, and a new learning environment. I guess going from being homeschooled to being in a real school is a big step for someone. I was nervous on my first day of school, especially since I just moved to a new home.

  27. Dear Bloggers,
In one of the questions that was asked it said that the way I leave this place will be better than when I came said Ida's dad. What he was say is that the earth wasn't so healthy while he was there but he is going to do all he can to make it better. Ida seems like on that would hlep the earth to because she enjoys nature and being outside. Talk to you later. From mm0104

Some of the struggles that Ida is having in school would be some of the rules were hard for her to follow such as no talking. Some of the sturggles that we carry out as we go through school are keep your grades up and following directions.Another thing that Ida didn't always do was raise her hand to answer a question from Ms.Meyer or she would and you can't tell because she would only raise her hand half. 29. Dear Friends,
I think Ida's dad means by we should leave this Earth better than how it was before us is we should take care of the Earth as if God wanted it to be. Except now we are actually destroying the earth not making it better. Everybody is abusing things that are very harmful for the world. Except we are trying to help, kind of recreate the Earth by making our natuaral resources into fuel and stuff. Least we are trying to help the Earth again.

  30. Ida B is really worried about how many more days of school there are so she asked her mom and before her mom could even answer she asked another question. " How many more days of school are there for the rest of my life". I use to be like that when I was younger but now I know how many there are and I don't need to ask my mom, or dad.

I agree with bk0323 because I hate silent lunches. Homework I don't understand makes me go crazy. Sometimes I just want to punch my table, but I don't because that would really hurt. I don't know why they like giving homework it just makes us mad at them!

My Golden and Supremely Nugget of Wisdom about life is "what goes around comes around" and "grab the bull by the horns". These are my nuggets of wisdom because you have to be ready for whatever hits you in life and not everything is going to turn out your way. My Golden and Supremely Nugget of Wisdom compares to Ida B's because hers is kind of how you have to live life to the fullest and mine kind of says if you do those two things you might be living life to the fullest.

  36. Dear Second Cousins Twice Removed Sisters Third Wives daughters and sons,
Well Ida B's first day of school kind of stinks for her. Well for the curious little girl she is it kind of gets her into trouble. First it's when she talks back to the teacher about how her name is really Ida B, but Ms. Myers thinks that that's her nickname so they call her Ida which is her mom's name. This is similar to one of my first days because in seventh grade I thought that every teacher hated me because they always criticized on the littlest things.

Ida's idea of fun is going out in to nature and talking to the trees. One of her wishes for her enjoyment are that on of the notes she sends on her hope made rafts that she will get an answer back that she sends up the river. Things I like to do for my enjoyment would be dance, volleyball, and smimming. But before Ida get's to go have fun she has to do work to such as her dishes that she raced to get done pitting away. So she could go outside and play.I have to do the same before can go do anything. Talk to you later. From mm0104

What I have been reading I have come to the conclusion that most people think that Ida B has had a bad experience at her first day of school.Which I agree on that too because no one really thought that Ida was a good student and the details in the book made it sound that Ida B was this really nice young girl that cared for everyone and everything. As soon as she got to school it seemed that it was just the opposite of that because her teacher didn't really like her and Ida didn't like her teacher.
